Joe Taylor _ Dappled Things _ FRONT COVER.jpg

Twenty minutes after midnight on Christmas Eve in a north Alabama monastery famed for its sculptures, a monk is reverently placing his sculpted Black Infant Christ in a manger.
Before Julius, can settle the Infant, a bullet sends the back of his skull flying into the folds of his assistant's robe. Brother Benedict reaches for a hammer to follow the rifle's flash across a gulley, intending revenge - too late, for a motorcycle starts, carrying the murderer away. It's left for Benedict to unravel the killer's identity and the monk's ghosts from the past.

Joe Taylor has several story collections and novels, most recently, Francine, from Main Street Rag Press. Paradise Muzzled, a novel-in-verse, is forthcoming from Sagging Meniscus Press. His Ph.D. in Creative Writing comes from Florida State; his Bachelor’s in (gasp) philosophy, from University of Kentucky. He and his wife and many dogs and cats reside on land comfortably far from any sports team or television station, though the Internet has pierced the peace even there. He has directed Livingston Press at The University of West Alabama . . . forever.
